Storms

Last month we had some crazy weather. We had storm after storm after storm. There were about 5-6 tornado warnings. We have lived here for almost 6 years and you would think that we would be used to the storms but they are still scary.
We had a really bad storm hit our town one night. We have a weather radio that keeps us informed about what is going on around us. It is the only thing that helps me sleep at night when there is a storm because it is not like out west when a thunderstorm is just that a thunderstorm. Here there is so much more that could happen with a storm. Well, that night I woke up to the very loud storm outside and noticed that the power had gone out. We didn't have good batteries in our weather radio so it wasn't working. I panicked, it was soooo loud outside and we didn't know whether there was a tornado warning or not. I jumped out of bed and got everyone in the bathroom with flashlights, a radio and lots of pillows and blankets. Turns out that there wasn't a tornado but there were 100 mph winds. CRAZY!

Here is what our lawn looked like after all of the rain. We got so much rain last month that I thought that we were going to float away

Here we are in the bathroom hanging out. As you can see, Jonathan and Nicholas were not fazed by the storms. Jonathan kept asking, "When can I go back to bed?" He is a very heavy sleeper and can sleep through anything.

The next day the sister missionaries, Sister Valentine and Sister Koford, dropped by. They only live 2 house down from us. While they were here we had another tornado warning and so we all headed for the bathroom again.

Here are some pictures of the storm damage the next morning.

The ground was so saturated from all of the rain that the strong winds knocked huge trees down roots and all. This picture was taken down the street from us.

I think this picture is amazing.

This was right next door to a member of our church. A tree fell on the carport with their car inside.

A lot of trees fell across roads and hit the power lines which happened all over town. This is why almost everyone was without power for some period of time during the night or day. We didn't have power from around midnight to 4 pm.

The next 3 pictures are of houses on our street.

And this one pulled up the whole ground with it. What a crazy storm!

Even though this was a terrible storm it was nothing compared to all of the storms that have happened in other parts of the country. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those people who have been affected. This is another reminder for us to be prepared.
