1st Birthday

Nicholas opening presents on his 1st birthday.

He liked eating the puzzles instead of putting them together.

Nicholas's brother and sisters love helping him open his presents and wanted to play with them before he did.  :)

Curious about the candle flame.

I decorated his cake in blue and yellow to celebrate Murray State who were playing in the NCAA tournament that day.

He got mad when we blew out the candle and wouldn't let him touch the flame.

He had to take a break to suck his thumb.  Eating cake is tiring.

Taking the plunge

Yummy!  I didn't realize that I had put so much frosting on his cake.  He kept trying to breath through his nose and was confused at why he couldn't.  It took him a while to get to the actual cake.

Tyler and Abby came for the weekend to help us celebrate.  It was so great to have them here.  I made homemade pizza for lunch.  Yummy!

After his party we went to a park for a little walk and took a few pictures of our cute 1 year old.

He loved riding the big wheel bike with Alli.

Loves to cuddle with his blanket and suck his thumb.  The funny thing is that it doesn't have to be a specific blanket, actually it doesn't have to be a blanket at all.  He will suck his thumb when he holds a burp cloth, pajama pants, socks, anything soft.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Other fun facts about Nicholas:

• He loves his big sisters and brother.  They can make him laugh like no one else can.  He always wants to be wherever they are.  Jonathan is very excited because Nicholas can climb on top of him and they can play wrestle and mom doesn't have to say "you can't do that, he is too little."  He has been waiting a long time to really play with his brother and Nicholas loves it.
• He is a very fast crawler.  Maybe this is why he is not that interested in walking.  He will take a few steps and then get down and crawl.  He must think that he can get where he is going faster by crawling so why walk.  This is very frustrating for his siblings because they want him to walk so bad but for mom it is alright.  Being baby #4 I know what happens when they start walking...it leads to running.  He is a very fast crawler but I can still catch him, once they start running they can get away from mom much quicker.  Take your time Nicholas.  There is no hurry.
• He also loves his daddy.  Whenever Alan comes home he gets the biggest grin on his face and crawls as fast as he can to get to him and if I happen to be holding him I have to make sure that I have a firm hold on him because he holds his arms out and lunges out of my arms to get to him.  It is so funny at church because he can even tell it is Alan from the back.  Alan is always there early so when we get there Nicholas is on the search for dad.  I can always tell when he has spotted him because he starts grunting and moaning, like he is frustrated that he can see him but can't get to him.
• He has the cutest smile that can light up a room.
• He loves to listen to music and bob up and down to the beat.
• He loves to be outside, going on walks and jumping on the trampoline.

We love our little man.  He is such a wonderful part of our family.
