Jonathan's spring activities

Jonathan played baseball again this year.

It was his first year of machine pitch.  He started out pretty rough, not being able to hit any balls.  He started getting a little discouraged and was not wanting to go to any practices or games.  We encouraged him to not give up and on game #7 he hit his first ball and even got a run.  Their team had lost their 1st 6 games and on this night they were in overtime and Jonathan was up to bat for the 2nd time and got a hit and then he got the final run that won his team their 1st game.  What a game!  As you can imagine I was a proud momma.  My throat hurt from yelling so much.  Coach Green got to give away his 1st game ball and he gave it to Jonathan for his improvement.  Jonathan was just so happy.  He couldn't stop telling everyone that he got the game ball.  After that I didn't have to fight with him to get him to go to baseball and throughout the rest of the season he became quite the hitter.

In May Jonathan decided that he wanted a new bike.  His birthday was just in March and Christmas was far away.  We made a deal with him that if he earned half of the money for the bike that we would pay the other half.  He started doing extra things around the house and then one day he told Alan that he wanted to have a lemonade stand. Alan helped him to make the lemonade and set up the stand.   Then he started to work.  He got all of the kids in the neighborhood to buy his lemonade and he ended up making $9.60.  Pretty good for only about an hour of selling lemonade on a drizzly, cloudy day.  He is quite the entrepreneur and with all of his hard work he now has a bike (a month earlier Alli did the same thing - she wanted a pink Hello Kitty scooter.  She earned half of the money by doing extra chores and we paid the other half).  I hope they are learning good skills for the rest of their lives.

Jonathan got his 3rd gold tag which is a reward system in their elementary school for following their guidelines for success.  It is a great achievement.  He had a great 1st grade year.
