On the 2nd day of our 4 day trip home we stopped at Mt. Rushmore. We have of course seen it many times in books, movies, etc...but to finally see it in person was spectacular. It is quite incredible how big it is and to think of those men working on it and the detail they were able to carve in the mountain is truly amazing.

On the way home we saw lots of flooding in Iowa and Missouri. On Sunday we stopped in Sioux City, Iowa and went to church. They had a lot of flooding in their town. Lots of people had been out of their homes for 2 months and were just getting to come back. We saw whole playgrounds under water. It was so sad. This is what it looked like on the freeway just outside of Sioux Falls. They had sand bags all along the freeway to try to keep the water from flooding the road. On other parts of the freeway they hadn't been so successful because we had to take a huge detour because sections of the freeway were under water. We saw more of Iowa and Missouri than we ever thought we would (or wanted to). It was quite a pretty drive to get off the freeway and go on the side roads, but it did make it a little longer of a day and this was day 3 so we were ready to be done driving.
We were so happy to finally get home. Our kids really were troopers. Thanks to all of you who helped us to have such a great vacation. It was so great to see everyone. Our kids were so sad to come home. Alli cried the night before leaving because she didn't want to go back home. They all said that they wanted to move back to Idaho so that they could play with their cousins all of the time. Now that they are home and back into school and friends they are happy and don't ever want to leave here. :) I am glad that they can be happy where ever they are and enjoy life.
